Mickey's Trailer
Mickey’s Trailer is an imitation/realization of the trailer from the Walt Disney cartoon "Mickey's Trailer" from 1938. This film, where Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy are camping in the mountains in a mechanically transformable trailer, is very well known to Swedish people, since it has been aired on television every Christmas Eve since 1960. This sequence constitutes an essential part of the Swedish cultural consciousness and has become a nationally adopted memory. This trailer in particular, is constantly used as a reference to anything compact-living, convertible or "hidden features"- related, perhaps due to the fact that Swedes are quite keen on going camping ourselves? How has this adoption of an American cartoon affected us, and how do we behave around this phenomenon, the cartoon and the imitation (real) trailer?
The objective was to come as close to the original as possible, always challenging the fact that it is a cartoon, in two dimensions, where anything is possible. In order to make the cartoon trailer come to life, it was mechanized with engines, pneumatics, PLC computers, vents, sound systems, etc. (This was made possible only due to the invaluable assistance of mechanic expert Bruno Tardat.)
